GOVANHILL residents are urged to contact police with any concerns over a row about anti-social behaviour.

Premises on Allison Street are believed to be being used as a snooker hall with locals claiming rowdy behaviour and visitors urinating in the street as a result.

Local councillor Soryia Siddique said she has received constant concerns from her constituents - but Police Scotland said no complaints have been made.

Council bosses, however, are aware of the situation and have sent out Planning Enforcement officers to assess the situation.

Dr Siddique said: "Constituents have raised concerns regarding premises being used on Allison Street as snooker halls.

"I have raised their concerns with the planning department and they appear to have served a Planning Contravention Notice."

A Glasgow City Council spokesman confirmed that a Planning Contravention Notice had been sent to the owners of what is a former bookmakers.

A council spokesman said: "Planning Enforcement officers visited the properties to check if any planning breach or breaches had taken place, but both were closed.

"The officers have now sent a Planning Contravention Notice to the owners, which requires them to reply with information including hours of operation, ownership and lease details, in order that consideration of the likelihood - or not - of planning consent being granted could be made.

"The next step would then either be the submission of a retrospective planning application for each property or the cessation of operations at each within a specific timescale."

The Evening Times has twice visited the address but was unable to speak to the owners.

One local resident said: "It is mostly in the early evenings young people are coming and hanging out in the old shop.

"That would, of course, be fine but it's their behaviour outside - urinating in the close entrance next door, being loud and rowdy.

"It's not acceptable."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said there had been no reports of any issues at the 'snooker hall'.

She said: "We would urge members of the public to report any incidents or concerns to Gorbals Police Station via 101."

Dr Siddique said the issue showed how little there is for teenagers in the area to do and called for this to be part of ongoing plans for the community.

She added: "There does seem to be a demand for youth activities in the area, and this needs to be actioned as part of the regeneration plan for Govanhill."
