GLASGOW'S city centre is set to welcome a new restaurant.

The former Oddbins off-licence on Mitchell Street is to be transformed into a new eatery with a licensed bar.

Glasgow City Council has given the move the green light, however, as the planning application was only speculative, it's not yet known what type of restaurant will take over the site.

A similar application by London-based owners M2C Property was approved last year for the nearby 89 Mitchell Street after the dry cleaners occupying the site revealed plans to leave.

However, after the cleaning firm decided to extend their lease, developers were forced to scrap the plans until a new home could be found - prompting the move to 93 Mitchell Street.

It's not yet known when work will begin on the site, however, it will be limited to opening between 8am and 11pm each day due to the council's restrictions.

Work will also take place to install an extraction flue to the rear of the property to rid the area of cooking odours.
