A Glasgow housing association has commissioned a mural in the End End to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Thenue Housing Association have chosen the gable at 499 London Road as the location of the mural, close to their head office.

ArtPistol, who was asked prepare designs and has come up with the idea of depicting Princess Theneva (Thenue) - the daughter of King Loth of the Gododdin and mother of St Mungo or Kentigern in the artwork.

The mural will depict the moment when Princess Theneva was rescued from the River Forth by St Serf from Culross Abbey while pregnant with St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint and founder, after being cast out by her father.

His description states: "It is this brief moment of fate, which is to become part of the origin story of Glasgow, that we want to capture in the mural.

"This is not going to be a religious mural, with religious imagery. We are avoiding that and looking to visualise the moment in a contemporary way. It is all about that moment Serf meets Thenue, the sheer sheer significance of it, the fortuitous and beautiful timing, and creating a stunning piece of street art."

Ahead of the art work being created, the existing gable will be improved with new insulated render coating to benefit the flats and provide a suitable canvas.

The plans are due to go before Glasgow City Council.
