Armed police in East London swooped in on a fugitive wanted in Glasgow this morning, only to later find they had arrested the wrong man.
Police in Romford, east London were tipped off about a wanted man, and he was taken to a police station for questioning after being arrested just after 10am.
But hours later, officers realised they had arrested another man not wanted by police.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Police were called to Greenway, Harold Hill at 10.06am on May 14 following information received about a wanted man in the area.

“Officers, including armed police, attended and traced a man who was wanted by police in Glasgow.
“The man was subsequently arrested after being confirmed as wanted and taken to an East London police station for questioning.”

But hours later, The Met Police said the wrong man was arrested.
A spokesman said: "Following enquiries, he was subsequently found to be another man not wanted by police and released with no further action."
