RAIL passengers travelling on the Glasgow to East Kilbride line are being warned to expect delays and disruption due to a major signalling fault.
Network Rail said the source of the problem has now been identified but warned it could take some time before services are running normally.
Scotrail said a faulty piece of equipment was identified near Hairmyres station. A test service was being run on the track before services resume.
A Network Rail spokesman said: "Please accept our apologies for the disruption caused by the signal fault on the #EastKilbride line impacting on services to #Glasgow.
"Fault is intermittent & when it re-occurs we have to investigate 12 locations & 8 miles of cable, spread over 4 miles."
Our colleagues @ScotRail will work to reintroduce normal timetable between #EastKilbride & #Glasgow as quickly as possible but please be aware that this may take some time due to trains and staff being out of position due to disruption.
