A LONG serving school governor has been installed at Prestatyn's new mayor.

Cllr Tony Flynn took the chains of office during Prestatyn Town Council's annual general meeting. He took over the reins from outgoing mayor cllr Anton Sampson.

Cllr Flynn has been a Prestatyn North councillor since 2017. He was elected alongside his daughter Rachel Flynn. Both represent Prestatyn North alongside cllr Paul Penlington.

"It is a tremendous honour to hold this position within the community," he said.

"I would like to express my thanks to all the town councillors for their trust and I would like to thank cllr Anton Sampson, outgoing mayor, for his dedication and hard work.

"I will serve the community with the utmost dignity and respect in all I do."

North Wales Superkids, who work to relieve the needs of children and young people up to the age of 25 who are socially and economically disadvantaged whether through financial hardship, domestic violence, health, substance misuse or through other social and economic factors.

The councillor is also wanting to raise money for parent teacher association (PTA) at Prestatyn High School. The organisation helps raise money when school funds cannot be used to purchase items. 

The Prestatyn High School governor holds the belief that "the more we invest in children's lives the more we will reap the rewards for the future." He said one of his highlights of the year is attending the Record of Achievement night at the Pavilion in Rhyl

Cllr Flynn is married to Yvonne. He grew up in Abergele and is a former Ysgol Mair and Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School pupil.

He joined the Royal Air Force in 1972, prior to his involvement in start up businesses. In 1988, he established a sandwich business with his wife with a total of £22 investment.

In 1994, it was awarded 'business of the year' for East Anglia. It became the largest privately owned sandwich business in East Anglia employing 66 full time staff.
