PLANS for a late-night bowling alley in Glasgow have been put on hold after councillors requested a site visit.

Licensing chiefs decided to continue Hamcap Ltd’s application to sell alcohol at ‘Bowlarama’ on the upper floor of the former Tiger Tiger club at 20 Glassford Street.

A representative for the applicant said £400,000 was going to be spent on revamping the club, which would include installing ten-pin bowling lanes.

They said it was “really catching on up and down the country”. “People not only want to drink in a premises, they want something else to do.”

However, councillors raised concerns over bowling going on late into the night.

Councillor Margaret Morgan asked whether it was a bowling alley or a club. She said bowling in a night club didn’t “rest easy” with her.

“It is in fact both,” the applicant’s representative said. “It happens in other places very successfully.

Bowling would also be available during the day. The Licensing Board continued the application so a site visit can take place.

A separate application to sell alcohol at a nightclub called ‘Slay’ in the basement of the Glassford Street site was approved by the Board.

It will host live music and club nights, with opening hours between 7pm and 3am.
