Two Glasgow confectionery shops are to close, putting around 30 jobs at risk. 

Chocolate chain Thorntons have confirmed they will be closing two of their Glasgow shops from September. 

The two sites, Braehead and Glasgow Fort, are to close from later this year.

A further four stores in the city, in Buchanan Galleries, Sauchiehall St, St Enochs and Silverburn, will remain open. 

A spokeswoman from the British confectionery giant told Glasgow Live: "Like any retailer, we are continuously reviewing our store estate to ensure we are in the locations that meet our customer needs.

"As a result of such a review, the decision was taken to close the stores at Braehead on September 7, 2019 and Glasgow Fort on September 21, 2019 respectively.

"Currently, 30 staff members are employed at the stores and we are looking to find them other employment opportunities where possible."

Thorntons has around about 228 stores across the UK, as well as 186 franchise shops.
