AN Evening Times paper boy has urged other teenagers to join the team – to ensure they rake in that all important pocket money.

Aidan McKinlay began delivering the newspaper to his neighbours in East Kilbride around four months ago, after being inspired by his cousin Ryan who was bringing home the cash.

The 14-year-old now has 22 customers and spends around 30 minutes a day on his route.

He said: “My cousins did it before me. My cousin Ryan started when he was around 12, back when the age limit was a bit lower, and carried on until he was working.

“I saw the amount of money they were getting and they got to go out and get a bit more fit.

“It saves me from just sitting in the house playing Xbox after school.”

However, it’s not all work and no play as the teenager makes sure to include some obligatory football banter with his consumers.

He said: “My customers are really good. A lot of them like football. I’m a Celtic fan and a few are Rangers fans so we have a laugh with each other take the mick out each other.

“Most of the money I make goes towards buying football strips, clothes and sport stuff.

“I’m really enjoying it, I would definitely recommend it. I’ll be doing it until I leave school at least so at least a few more years.”

Aidan is just one of the incredible paper boys and girls who help deliver the Evening Times to thousands of homes across Glasgow.

Home delivery executive Paul Keaney said: “An Evening Times paper round is a job made for teenagers because you deliver the papers once your school day is over.

“The hard work and commitment of our paperboys and girls is a huge benefit to the Evening Times and its customers.

“If you do join our team you will be in good company. Over the years many famous faces have helped deliver the Evening Times such as sports presenter Chick Young, comedian Andy Cameron and Scotland Today anchorman John Mackay.

“With most paper rounds taking less than half an hour, six days a week, there is plenty of time left for other after school activities. You can also boost your pocket money with the commission we pay on every paper you deliver and bonuses paid each time you sign up a new customer of £20 a customer.”
