A THIEF who stole jewellery from his father’s house was jailed for 14 months.

Christopher Barrie, 34, was caught red-handed locked inside an en-suite toilet in one of the bedrooms.

Barrie, who told police he carried out the theft because his father had disowned him, had a haul of diamond rings and earrings, a watch, a mobile phone and headphones.

He pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to breaking into his father and stepmother’s house in the city’s Carntyne area in March.

Prosecutor Marie McCue said: “An observer saw Mr Barrie in his father’s back garden and saw him smash the patio door.

“Police were called and they observed Barrie locked inside the en-suite toilet of one of the bedrooms.

“He had been clearly looking through wardrobes and putting items in his pockets.”

Barrie was arrested, and charged with the offence and told police: “It is my Ddad’s house.”

Lawyer James McNair, defending, said Barrie was intoxicated and remembers little of the robbery.

Referring to his father Barrie shouted out in court: “He disowned me.”

Mr McNair said Barrie had turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with his father abandoning him.

Sheriff Paul Crozier put Barrie behind bars on Tuesday.
