A MAN tried to disrupt Scottish independence supporters by running into traffic and showing his backside.

David Bates spat as a contingent of bikers drove along London Road following the All Under One Banner march on May 4.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the 34-year-old lifted up his jacket to highlight a Union flag T-shirt underneath as the bikers passed.

He ran into traffic, shouting and gesturing with his fists before spitting towards the motorcyclists.

Bates, from Bridgeton, then removed his trousers and underpants to show his backside.

The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court he then began "slapping his buttocks."

His rampage, which caused motorcyclists to swerve in the road in order to avoid causing an accident by running into him, finally ended when he spat a second time at the bikers.

Bates's actions were captured on CCTV and he was arrested and charged with public indecency.

Sheriff Barry Divers sentenced Bates to a Compulsory Supervision Order, telling him he must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within six months.

He will be under the supervision of social workers for one year and the sentence was reduced from 300 hours of unpaid work thanks to Bates's early guilty plea.

Sheriff Divers told Bates to must stick to the terms of his supervision.
