AS intense rain and thunderstorms hit much of England this week, things north of the border are set to be calmer.

The Met Office is forecasting a cloudy day for Glasgow with the odd patch of light rain coming across from east, mostly over Lanarkshire. It is set to be brighter further west with some sunshine over Argyll. A maximum temperature of 17°C is to be expected.

Tonight will be cloudy with patchy light rain. The rain will become more persistent and heavier overnight, especially across Ayrshire and Lanarkshire, as tempertaures dip to around 8°C.

Tomorrow will be cloudy with further outbreaks of rain, heavy at times during the morning, turning lighter and patchy during the afternoon. Drier weather will become confined to the west Argyll coast. A top temperature of 15C should be expected.
