GLASGOW and its surrounding areas are set for heavy rain, thunder and hail today.

The Met Office has forecast another day of sunshine and showers, isolated and light through to mid-morning, then building to turn more frequent and heavy from late morning.

The weather service has also warned of a risk of thunder and hail for the afternoon, with the maximum temperature 18°C.

Sharp afternoon showers will decay during the evening, leaving good spells of late sunshine.

It will be mostly dry overnight, but thickening cloud will bring an area of rain to Argyll before dawn, with the temperature set to drop to 8°C.
