OVERNIGHT roadworks on sections of the M80 and M73 are set to kick off tonight (June 18) for three nights.

The project involves structural inspections to ensure the road remains safe for road users.

Some carriageway and slip-road closures will be in place on sections of the M80 and M73.

On Tuesday night, works will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, with the remaining two nights on Wednesday and Thursday taking place between 10pm and 6am.

The areas set to close are:

Tuesday, June 18 – 8pm-6am

  • M80 southbound single lane closure from Junction 3 Hornshill to Junction 2 Robroyston
  • M80 northbound single lane closure from Junction 2 Robroyston to Junction 3 Hornshill
  • M80 northbound Junction 3 Hornshill off-slip closure

Wednesday, June 19 – 10pm-6am

  • M80 northbound full road closure from Junction 4 Westfield to Junction 5 Auchenkilns
  • M73 northbound full road closure from Junction 3 Mollinsburn to the M73/M80 merge
  • M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on-slip closure

Thursday, June 20 – 10pm-6am

  • M80 southbound full road closure from Junction 5 Auchenkilns to Junction 4 Westfield
  • M80 southbound Junction 5 Auchenkilns on-slip closure
  • M80 southbound Junction 4a Low Wood on-slip closure
  • M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on-slip closure

Signed diversions will be in place each night. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours and the M80 will be fully open.

Carnie Morrison, Highway Management (Scotland) Limited general manager, said: “These essential maintenance works are being carried out overnight when traffic flows are reduced to minimise delays to motorists as much as possible.

“These essential maintenance improvements will help ensure the M80 and M73 motorways will be kept in a safe condition for road users.
