DRIVERS are experiencing delays after a two-car crash on the M8 this morning.

The incident took place between junction 15 Springburn and junction 16 George Square.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was at the scene to cut the roof off one of the cars involved.

One Twitter user wrote: "Everyone try and avoid the m8 into town. Massive crash just by the cut off to the royal. 5 fire brigades. Tailed right back by Asda Robroyston and tailed right back by Glasgow fort!"

Traffic Scotland provided an update to its followers just before 9am.

The team wrote: “#M8 W/B between J15 Springburn and J16 George Sq. - Traffic still only running in lane 1 of 3 only due to 3 car RTC,

“Fire service on scene, need to cut roof off car.

“Traffic queuing from J11 Stepps, added delays of nearly 50 mins.”

The team added just before 10am that the route had been cleared and that traffic was starting to ease.

An SRFS spokesman told the Evening Times: “We were alerted at 8.22am on Wednesday, June 19 to reports of a road traffic collision on the M8, near Springburn, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised five fire engines to the M8, between junctions 15 and 16, where firefighters were met by a collision involving two vehicles.

“Firefighters helped remove one casualty from their vehicle before passing him into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“In total, two casualties were thereafter transferred to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.

“Firefighters currently remain on the scene working to make the area safe.”

Ambulance crews have yet to respond to a request for comment.
