We previously reported that Mr Kelly was found with serious injuries on Hermitage Avenue in Knightswood on Saturday morning.

Emergency services attended but the 50-year-old died at the scene. Jason Cowan, 46, has appeared in court charged with Mr Kelly's murder. Glasgow man Cowan was remanded in custody and is expected to appear again at a later date.

The magazine's editor explained that tributes had already been left at Mr Kelly's former pitch outside Sainsbury's in Buchanan Street. The supermarket's staff started the touching memorial yesterday after learning of his death.

The journalist said: "Increasing number of flowers and messages at Paul Kelly's pitch in Glasgow City centre.

"Incredible volume of messages we've received at The Big Issue show how loved he was.

"We will hold a memorial vigil for Paul early next week. Details to follow soon."

Mr Kelly worked for the publication for 15 years and was known for shouting his catchphrase, 'Don't be shy, give it a try. I don't bite' on his pitches.

Regulars who buy the magazine may have also seen Mr Kelly at his pitch outside Marks & Spencer in East Kilbride Town Centre and St Leonards Square where he worked on a Sunday.
