WHISKY connoisseurs across the Wee County came together last week at a tasting as they discovered the links between the area and the nation's drink.

The event was held at Clackmannan Town Hall on Friday evening and was attended by more than 60 people, all keen to hear about the history before having a tipple.

Organised by the Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) the evening was a huge success with everything from the speakers to the raffle going much better than expected.

Monica Wilson, chair of the community group and a member of the events team, told the Advertiser that everyone in attendance had a wonderful night and that the history talk thrilled enthusiasts.

She said that while the group were aware of the role Clackmannan has in the history of whisky in Scotland, one of the speakers invited on the night, John MacPherson, divulged further detail about it.

As well as the talk, there was also a raffle on the night with all profits going towards future events organised by the CDT.

Monica said: "There was a great raffle with fantastic prizes including various whiskies donated by members and a magnum of Prosecco. There was also gin and other drinks as well as cosmetic gifts.

"A local cake maker also donated a bouquet of flowers which was actually cupcakes which was amazing.

"I think it was a wonderful night. There was over 60 people there which was more than we expected. The tasting was fun and everyone seemed to have a great time."

Monica wished to thank John for his talk on the heritage and history of whisky, Louise Martin and her team who carried out the tasting of whiskies, all of which was provided by Diageo, and Tom Nichol, a master distiller who was on hand for a gin tasting.

She also wanted to thank everyone for coming and helping make it a great night.
