A Glasgow brewery is offering beer-lovers the chance to nab a free pint - if they steal a glass from their rivals.

Drygate Brewery announced the hilarious challenge today after Glaswegians took part in Innis & Gunn's 'People Make Glass Go' race, where cities competed to see who could steal the most branded glasses.

Those hailing from Scotland's biggest city smashed the record (not the glasses) set by Edinbugh in 2017, and managed to grab 2,000 pint glasses in 24 minutes 19 seconds.

Now, Drygate say the craft beer business have 'stolen their thunder' ahead of their major rebrand, and say they have 'poked the bear'.

Writing an open letter to Innis & Gunn, they said:

"We were just about to announce our shiny new rebrand. We had the press release ready to send and everything.

"But then you rolled up. You came to Glasgow, with your truck full of beautiful glasses and your offers of free lager. Stealing our thunder.

"We see you, Innis & Gunn. You poked the bear. Challenge accepted.

"We’ve stolen the best bits of lagers we love, to create Bearface. The all-malt base and soft water of a Czech pilsner, the biting snap of a German pils, and from India pale lagers, a load of North American hops. But we hadn’t designed a glass for it yet.

"We like your glasses, so now we’re stealing them too."

They say anyone who steals an Innis & Gunn glass from the brand's truck can bring it down to Drygate, where it will be filled with Bearface free of charge.

They added: "We might have been caught out by you turning up on our turf. But we won’t be caught out again. We’re watching you."

Responding to the letter, Robb Hamlin at Innis & Gunn, said: “What can I say? Wow! The people of Glasgow exceeded all expectations. 2,000 glasses in less than 25 minutes is a superhuman effort.

"For those who managed to nab a voucher for a free pint too, we’re looking forward to welcoming you to our newly launched Brewery Taproom in Ashton Lane from tomorrow. Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm and support.

“Also huge thanks to our friends over at Drygate for helping us get rid of our glasses so quickly, and for the compliments they’ve been giving us on their social media.

"Our glasses are specially designed so that our beer tastes best from our glass, but we’re sure yours will fare just fine. Hopefully.

"Good luck with your rebrand and we’d welcome a wee tap swap in our respective Glasgow bars, so please get in touch.”
