A MAN is fighting for life after been left seriously injured in an attempted murder in Dumbarton.

Police Scotland said two men became embroiled in a verbal altercation on High Street, outside the Captain James Lang Wetherspoon pub, at around 2pm on Thursday, June 20.

One of the men then assaulted the other.

Emergency services attended and a 55-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Enquiries are ongoing.

The force is now appealing for information.

Detective sergeant Gordon Murray, at Clydebank Police Office, said: “We are currently carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened here and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“The street would have been busy at this time of day and we know that there were a number of people in the area with their mobile phones out at the time. We are asking these people who may have footage of the incident to get in touch with us.”
