A Scottish band have scooped the top prize of a global battle of the bands contest.

Moonlight Zoo came out on top of the worldwide contest, hosted by the Hard Rock Cafe in New York.

The Dumferline band won an all-expenses-paid trip to New York to compete in the final after sailing through the first round in Glasgow.

After knocking off competition from fellow Scots bands in the Buchanan Street venue, they then went head-to-head against other regional winners in a worldwide fan vote to name the three finalists.

They played against bands from Nashville and Curitiba in the final, and their hard work paid off, with the four-piece scooping up the $15,000 prize on Friday.

Sean Defrancesco of Moonlight Zoo told The Evening Times: "We can't believe it - The whole experience felt like a dream.

"From getting flown to New York and playing the Paramount Theatre on a stage that has seen the likes of The Beatles and Elvis Presley to name but a few, and then to actually win and be standing afterwards on a rooftop in Times Square, holding an oversized cheque for $15,000 after having been judged by some of the biggest names in the industry - it's surreal!

"We have dedicated our lives to this band for so long and it feels incredible to get a sense that it is finally paying off.

"We hope to use our win in this competition and connections we have made from it to help push the band onto to bigger and better things."

As if their win was not enough, the band released their latest single 'Survive' ahead of their competition set.
