Barcelona is gradually creating more car free street by adopting the supergrid system where several blocks are car free and traffic is directed around the periphery.

Dublin, this summer, is having car free Sundays in July and August on College Green to create a public square with proposals to go permanently car free in the future.

Trafalgar Square in London has been partially pedestrianised with the north side of the famous square closed to traffic in 2003.

It has created a larger public square and more space for public art and gatherings

Manchester is looking to remove cars from Albert Square in the city centre.

Milan is creating more car free spaces. The second biggest city in Italy has closed of many streets around the Cathedral and the Galleria Emmanuelle Vittorio II shopping centre and is looking to do the same around the famous Scala Opera House.

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has a plan to make the historic centre of the French capital car free.

More streets in the central arrondissements are to be designated car free.
