COMMUTERS faced rush-hour chaos this morning due to repairs on the rail lines.

ScotRail said Network Rail had been working through the night and were continuing to work on repairs this morning. Thge overhead wires at Charing Cross were damaged which forced the rail service to stop trains running through the area. 

Services going through Charing Cross were therefore changed.

Airdrie to Balloch trains only operated between Balloch and Anniesland in both directions.

Helensburgh to Edinburgh operated between Helensburgh, Dalmuir and between Bellgrove and Edinburgh. The service also called at Bowling and Kilpatrick. 

Train services from Milngavie to Edinburgh and Springburn to Dumbarton Central were withdrawn. 

Alternative routes were available. Milngavie and Dalmuir via Glasgow central low level operated as normal while Glasgow Queen Street high level services were still on.

Passengers travelling directly from Glasgow Queen Street low level to Springburn were told they could travel on the Glasgow Queen Street high level to Cumbernauld services. 

Alternative bus routes were available via First Glasgow. For Glasgow - Charing Cross - Partick - Hyndland - Anniesland - Westerton - Bearsden - Hillfoot - Milngavie. Bus services were 2, 3, 6/A, 16, 60/A, 77, 94, M4, M11, M60 and X4.

Glasgow - High Street - Bellgrove - Carntyne - Shettleston - Garrowhill -Easterhouse - Blairhill - Coatbridge Sunnyside - Coatdyke - Airdrie. Bus services  available were 2, 38, 41, 43, 46, 60/A, 61, 90, 201, 240 and 255.

One commuter said that train station annoucements warned the delays could last until 8am.
