COUNCIL leader Susan Aitken has slammed the Home Office over plans to evict around 300 asylum seekers.
Serco, which was handed the contract for providing asylum by the Home Office, intends to remove asylum seekers, who they say have exhausted all options to remain in the UK, from their homes.
The city council has raised concerns over the plans, with Ms Aitken writing to immigration minister Caroline Nokes to condemn the move.

Labour councillor Jane Morgan quizzed the council leader on the latest discussions with the UK Government at a full council meeting yesterday.
In response, Ms Aitken said the minister had not been able to find time in her diary to discuss the Council's concerns.
She said the city's position on the matter has been made clear to the Home Office and, while criticising Serco's behaviour, she placed the blame with the government department.
"We cannot continue to be put in this position by the Home Office," Ms Aitken said. "There’s no way this can be regarded as acceptable.
