GLASGOW'S premier entertainment venue the Scottish Event Campus want to put up three storage sheds at their flagship Hydro - to give their technical teams more space.

Plans were submitted to the city council for permission for the move at their base in Congress Road in the city's Finnieston.

A supporting statement with the plans says that storage and technical control have less space at the SSE Hydro - because the stage was moved back to increase the floor capacity.

The statement said: "Such space is vital for large scale productions who require it to store empty cases, stillages and equipment in a way that allows the show to be built and de-rigged in-line with the time constraints placed on touring show.

"The space is also required to accommodate dimmer racks, electrical distribution and visual control systems that are vital to the many events we host in the Hydro."

The first two storage sheds will be used for seating which currently takes up the space production could use. Around 4000 seats are erected for 60 per cent of events at the venue. If approved those seats would be moved into the two storage sheds.

The third shed would be a technical store for the venue. The venue's says at present extensive technical equipment is stored on curtain-sided trucks and temporary containers. This not only poses a security risk but means items can be damaged when exposed to the elements.

A decision for the plans is expected by August 19 and last date for comments is July 18.

The SSE Hydro opened more than five years ago and has since become one of the world's top venues for entertainment.
