An Irish republican group which supports the IRA is to march through Glasgow later this year.

The Friends of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA) is expected to carry out a 300-person strong march through the city on September 7.

The group's Facebook page regularly posts pro-IRA content, including using hashtags such as 'unfinished revolution' and 'unfinished business'.

According to its website, the IRPWA looks after the welfare of republican prisoners and is 'not aligned to any political party'.

Glasgow City Council has posted a notice of the march, saying that the procession plans are currently at an early stage.

They have advised that both the council and police services will meet with organisers at a later date.

The march is expected to leave Blythswood Square at around 12pm, before heading towards the east of the city.

It will travel down Blythswood Street, Cadogan Street, Douglas Street, Argyle Street, Queen Street, Ingram Street, Glassford Street, Trongate, Gallowgate, and ultimately finish at Barrowlands Park.

The announcement comes just a few months since members of the IRPWA came to the city for an event to commemorate the Easter Rising.

The April event was also attended by members of Saordh, a republican group that is widely considered to be the political wing of the New IRA.

The Friends of IRPWA also held a similar march last August, with around 200 people expected to have attended.

Hundreds took to the streets playing instruments and waving Irish republican banners and flags.
