A safari park has opened its doors to devastated families left stranded in a car park after their day trip organiser failed to pay bus drivers.

Around 140 people were hoping to visit Blair Drummond Safari Park on Saturday as part of a trip organised by Hamilton Holiday Club, only to have to go home empty-handed.

Kids were left crying in Hamilton's Beckford Street car park, with angry parents lodging a complaint with the police.

Now, the safari park has offered the families a second chance at an animal adventure, by arranging free admission for all those involved.

Blair Drummond Safari Park spokeswoman Liz Gunn told The Evening Times: "This is a terrible situation which has understandably left parents and children very disappointed.

"We wanted to make things better and have arranged free admission for the families involved so that they can enjoy their day at Blair Drummond Safari Park.

"Many of the people affected were families with young children, who were understandably very upset. We’re glad that we’ve been able to help."

The park is liaising with families to arrange an alternative date for their visit.
