Network Rail bosses have announced that platforms two and three at Glasgow Queen Street will be shut off to the public while they are extended this month.

Time

The scheduled works began at 12am on Sunday, with teams working around the clock for four weeks to extend the two platforms at Glasgow Queen Street.

Development

This is the latest work in the multi-year re-development of the station.

Extending platforms by 26 metre allows programmers to welcome longer trains into the station, creating more space for travellers. It also means more of the new, greener 385 models in use can be utilised.

What is next?

After platforms two and three are complete, work will pause on extensions while the Edinburgh Festival is on.

However, platforms four and five will be given a similar upgrade this September, meaning a few more weeks of disruption later this year.
