The heartbroken family of Alesha MacPhail has paid tribute to the six-year-old exactly one year after her death.

Her mum Georgina Lochrane urged everyone to smile for Alesha. She also asked anyone who wishes to make tributes online to use the hashtag "smile for Alesha" or "light for Alesha"

She told The Daily Record: "Today just remember her and who she was. She was happy, caring, loving and bubbly. She always had a beaming, bright smile. I want to see everyone smiling because that’s the way she would want it to be.

"She wouldn’t want everyone sitting today remembering what happened to her and crying about that. She would want everyone to be happy.”

The 24-year-old will release balloons at her daughter's graveside with her partner George Horn, daughter Courtney, 5, and close family by her side. Their tribute comes after a family fun day was held on Saturday, and her mum promised that they will do something different every year for the youngster to keep her legacy alive.

Glasgow Times:

Alesha's uncle Calum MacPhail, above, promised to keep fighting for the youngster. We previously reported that he launched a petition calling in a change for Scottish law to have dangerous teen criminals tried as adults in court.

He said: "Rest tight Alesha till we meet again and for as long as I live I promise to keep fighting on for you and I will make sure that the monster that took you away pays for what he has done.

"I love you, Alesha, much love Uncle Calum."

Meanwhile, the youngster's great grandad George Lochrane said he can't accept what happened to her and the fact her killer is still alive.

Mr Cochrane, who is angry that Aaron Campbell has been granted an appeal against his sentence next month, told The Scottish Sun: "I'm the kind of person who believes in an eye for an eye. He's a nothing. I'm so angry - I just don't understand these people or the justice system. We want him to rot in that cell."

Evil Campbell will have an appeal against his 27-year sentence for murdering and raping Alesha heard before three judges on August 7.

He was convicted of killing the schoolgirl on the Isle of Bute last July.
