LEE WALLACE is relishing the chance to kick-start his career with Queens Park Rangers after being reunited with Mark Warburton this summer.

The former Ibrox captain has penned a two-year deal at Loftus Road as he and keeper Liam Kelly have moved south of the border ahead of the new campaign.

Wallace featured just three times for Steven Gerrard’s side last term and was given an emotional farewell by the Light Blue legions on his final appearance against Hibernian.

The move to London will be the first time that Wallace has played outside of Scotland after starting his career with Hearts and then helping Rangers climb back from the Third Division to the Premiership.

And the 31-year-old can’t wait to get down to business as he prepares for a demanding campaign in the Championship this season.

Wallace told talkSPORT: “It has been a great first two weeks and clearly it is a big lifestyle change for me and young Liam signing down here and moving away from Scotland after 14 seasons for me.

“It is great but I am excited for it and there are a lot of challenges ahead. We are trying to navigate our way around the city just now and trying to sort ourselves out with accommodation and then we will focus on the football. It has been a great first two weeks.

“He (Warburton) is a man that I have got enormous respect for, there is no getting away from that.

“Ever since we worked together for Rangers I have always watched out for him very closely and when this opportunity arose it was really easy.

“It was very early in the transfer window and there could have been a bit of waiting. But, for me, when the phone call came and the discussions were had, we had a great football conversation about where we sees the club moving forward and the excitement that can be generated through a couple of new signings and the plans moving forward.

“For me, the phone call was pretty quick, pretty straightforward and I was very keen to get working with him again.

“It absolutely is [a great challenge]. I have heard a lot about the relentlessness of the league and obviously I know through watching football that it is a very demanding league with the fixture list and the first months of the season are packed with fixtures, which is great.

“Playing football games is what I have missed in the last couple of seasons through one reason or another so that excitement in that period now where you are really building towards that first game and that first set of fixtures all starts now. That is pre-season and it is a very exciting time for me.”
