HERO emergency services workers have saved a man from the River Clyde after a late-night rescue operation.

Police and firefighters responded immediately to the report that a man was in the water last night. It is understood that the man was shouting for help.

He was rescued in no-time and taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said their firefighters saved the man on a rescue boat.

Station manager Paul Blackwood added: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a person shouting for help in the water in the River Clyde, Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue units from Knightswood and Polmadie Community Stations to an area under the Kingston Bridge where an adult male was swiftly rescued by firefighters on a rescue boat.

“The person was taken by fire boat to the nearby Broomielaw pontoon then placed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and later transferred to hospital for the effects of suspected cold water and shock.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
