SCOTRAIL is adding extra carriages to trains this weekend to cope with revellers heading to Glasgow Green's TRNSMT music festival.

The train firm said more seats will be available on Friday to Sunday when artists including Stormzy, Gerry Cinnamon, George Ezra and Lewis Capaldi play the event.

Festival-goers are advised to plan their journey in advance and to allow extra time for travel as trains to and from the city centre will very busy.

Bridgeton is the closest station to Glasgow Green, but the venue can be accessed from five stations, all within a 20-minute walk. Those stations include Bridgeton, High Street, Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street and Argyle Street station.

Those going to TRNSMT are, however, reminded that Argyle Street station is closed at 5.40pm on Sundays.

ScotRail’s alcohol bans will be in force before 10am and after 9pm each day, and as with most special events, the train operator will have extra staff at stations to assist customers.

Travel advice is available on the ScotRail website at scotrail.co.uk/majorevents

Glasgow Times:

ScotRail Head of Customer Operations Phil Campbell said: “With a fantastic line-up of artists, TRNSMT is shaping up to be an exciting event, and we’re pleased to be part of it.

“To help the festival run smoothly, we’re providing extra seats to and from the Strathclyde area, but trains are expected to be extremely busy.

“Make sure to check your train times on our website or app, and leave plenty of time for travel. Buying tickets in advance will also help reduce your need to queue.”
