Hundreds back petition for speed camera on Glenburn Road

The petition has been launched in the wake of the death of 15-year-old Robyn Fryar. We previously reported that the popular teenage girl was out with friends in Paisley at around 2am on Sunday and was crossing Glenburn Road, near Fereneze Drive, when she was struck.

Now the community has reacted to the tragedy by taking action in the form of a petition.

Barbara Muir started the campaign, which has attracted more than 700 signatures. 

She said: "This stretch of road has no speed camera.

"It's too late to save Robyn Fryar's life but this is when installing a speed camera could save the next person's life."

One supporter said: "Families have been devastated by this latest tragedy, which can be avoided in the future by installing a camera before another innocent life is taken."

Another added: "This is long overdue but sadly a person's life has been taken the meantime."

We reported earlier that two 20-year-old men are due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.

We also reported yesterday that tributes had been made for the popular teenage girl.

One friend Abigail Anna Ferguson lead the tributes on social media for the popular teenager.

She said: "I never thought this would ever happen, especially to you.

"You’ve been my best friend and one of the only people who have stuck by me through everything.

"Your an amazing, unbelievable person who I never deserved to have in my life.

"You were my best friend and I’ll never find anyone like you.

"You were taken too soon and I’ll always miss you, thank you for everything. I love you."

A former teacher said it was a privilege to teach Robyn at Todholm Primary School. It is understood that she attended St Andrew's Academy.

Flowers were also laid at the scene by the devastated community who were coming to terms with the tragedy.
