STEVEN GERRARD hopes to clinch his eighth summer signing by the end of the week as he closes in on a deal for a defender.
The Ibrox boss dismissed reports of a move for Ivorian stopper Simon Deli after seeing his side beat St Joseph's on Tuesday night.
But he is keen to add to his ranks sooner rather than later after already bringing stopper George Edmundson on board earlier this summer.

Gerrard said: “There is something imminent in that position, but it is not the guy that you are talking about.
“There is still a way to go but we have had some progress in the last couple of days. If things progress as they have in the last 48 hours, I’m hoping something will get done by the end of the week.”
