GLASGOW and its surrounding areas are being urged to prepare for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

A Met Office yellow “be aware” warning has been declared for much of the country from noon on Thursday until 9pm.

The weather service has said heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause travel disruption and flooding in places during the afternoon and evening.

The public is being urged to expect a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is also a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
