Counter-terrorism police have issued a fresh plea to Glasgow holidaymakers to stay alert for attacks while abroad this summer.

Officials are urging families to watch a four-minute safety video detailing the “run, hide, tell” guidance before they travel.

The clip, created by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), will be promoted on social media ahead of the busy summer holiday period.

It was first issued in 2017 and has already been watched by more than 10 million people.

Detective Chief Superintendent Michael Orchard, co-ordinator of CTP’s Protect and Prepare, said: “The chances of being caught up in a terror attack are incredibly small, but we know that people like to know how to react should the worst happen.

“We want people to think of this in the same way they do the safety film on airlines, a sensible safety precaution that they will likely never have to use, but one that could still save your life or the lives of others.”

CTP has expanded its international work since the 2015 attack in Sousse, Tunisia when a gunman opened fire on a beach and murdered 38 people, 30 of whom were British.

The video has been translated into 15 languages so it can be watched by hotel and security staff abroad.

The Foreign Office has also urged holidaymakers to read its travel advice at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.

Security Minister Ben Wallace said: “I ask that holidaymakers take a minute before they travel to watch the Run, Hide, Tell film, which offers practical advice and could end up saving their lives should the worst happen.”
