RESIDENTS at their wits' end with a botched housing upgrade scheme are to endure yet more repairs to bungled works.

Homeowners and tenants of Thistle Housing Association were expecting a programme of environmental upgrades to take 14 weeks.

But the repairs are still ongoing two years later - even though the Scottish Housing Regulator last year parachuted in a management team to take over.

In April the Evening Times told how roof tiles fell from a block of flats on Kerrycroy Avenue, narrowly missing a homeowner standing below.

This was the second time tiles had come loose from the building - and followed repeated complaints from residents that the roof works that had been carried out were shoddy.

The beleaguered housing association finally asked an independent surveyor to carry out an inspection of the works.

Two reports into the roofs at 47 and 49 Kerrycroy Avenue each found repairs will have to be carried out.

Thistle Housing Association slammed for financial mismanagement

Resident David Crockwell said: "There is no surprise on the content of the reports to anyone but the management at Thistle.

"We said over and over again that the roofs had not been done properly.

"It is a miracle no one was killed when the tiles fell off before.

"Now we have put up with more works being done when this was meant to be all finished years ago.

"I cannot see and end to it. I can't see how it will ever end."

It is understood the works will mean yet more scaffolding being erected around the buildings with residents having already endured months of living in building site conditions.

And repairs will be carried out by City Building.

Initially, the works - designed to make around 700 homes in Toryglen more energy efficient - were carried out by energy giant E-on with millions of pounds of Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council cash.

Thistle Housing Association has never revealed how much additional money has been needed to try to repair the sub-standard works done to homes.

It would not say how much City Building is being paid to carry out the latest repairs.

A spokesman for Thistle Housing Association said: "We recently commissioned an inspection of the roofs that were included in the Major Works Contract in Toryglen, the findings of which show inconsistencies in work carried out by the appointed contractor.

"We are addressing this with them, whilst seeking a new contractor who we are confident will deliver the remedial works efficiently and to the required high standard.

"This work will commence imminently and we will keep all residents fully informed throughout the process."

In September last year a chimney coping stone fell from the roof of the flats following months of residents' safety complaints.

Locals said they had a "lucky escape" as the large piece of heavy concrete plunged into gardens below.
