THE PEAK will return to normal next week, with officials confirming that all swimming pools will re-open following essential works.

The main pool at the facility re-opened to the public at the start of June, having been temporarily closed since November 2018 due to the discovery of a problem with the base screed layer.

After a similar problem was also found in the teaching pool, the Stirling Council made the decision to bring forward investment in a new movable floor, which would have been due for renewal in two years, avoiding an extended closure in the future.

That has now been installed and all other repairs have been completed, allowing final preparations to begin for the return of customers to the teaching pool and the baby pool.

The water features in the baby pool have also been replaced with a new bright and colourful installation designed to help younger children gain confidence in the water.

After the popularity of the free public swimming to mark the re-opening of the main pool, there will be another free swim fun weekend at the start of the next month – on Saturday and Sunday, August 3-4 – to celebrate all the pools being back in action.

The free swim fun sessions will include lane swimming, public swimming, ALL IN members, friends and family sessions and pool inflatable fun sessions. More details of the free swim weekend can be found at The PEAK website

A new swim timetable for all pools from Monday 22 July is now also available online at The PEAK website.

Andrew Bain, chief executive at Active Stirling said “We are delighted to finally be able to have all three pools back open at The PEAK and would like to thank all our customers, members, partners, employees and the Stirling communities for their patience and understanding during what a very difficult time operationally.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone back next Monday as well as to the free fun swim weekend planned for early August.”

Councillor Chris Kane, convener of the community planning and regeneration committee, said: “Once again, I would like to thank all The PEAK customers for their patience and understanding during this period of unforeseen disruption, and also commend the tireless efforts of council and Active Stirling staff for completing this challenging work as quickly possible.

“The free swim sessions to mark the opening of the main pool created a real splash, so I am pleased that another event in the first weekend in August is taking place for all customers as another gesture of thanks to users and to signal that this fantastic community facility is fully back open for business.”
