Dr Judy Todd, consultant anaesthetist and clinic owner of Synergy Advanced Skincare and Aesthetics.
What does your business do?
Aesthetic treatments which include non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Where are you based?
My clinic is based Giffnock and is near my home so works well with family life, being a busy working mum.
Interestingly, I have clients from all over Glasgow as well as many who travel from all over Scotland, and south of the border too.

Glasgow Means Business: Bonnie Lawson-Brown of Bonnie BrasHow did you get started?
Initially, I was interested in trying out botox and when I began to research I thought I can do this myself.
The more I learned, the more I became fascinated by the aesthetics industry.
In the early days, my work was on the sidelines, which fit in well with my husband and four children.
As the business began to grow, it was clear I required my own clinical space.
I started on more advanced treatments and machine based procedures, surprisingly injectables are only a small part of the work I do.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow, Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2001.
In 2011 I achieved my specialist registration.
Because of the practical skills that I use every day in my job as a Consultant Anaesthetist with the NHS, the aesthetic procedures my team and I carry out at Synergy are not daunting, given my experience.
I apply the same standards, quality control and ethics as that of NHS hospitals to my aesthetic medicine practice, with safety being paramount at all times.

Take advice from people who have had their own businesses, and been in the firing line.
I think it’s crucial to listen to people who have made mistakes before and learn from their own experiences.
How long has your business been running?
Synergy Advanced Skincare and Aesthetics was established 2015, but I’ve been practicing aesthetic medicine for 14 years.

Not so much a deal but I have several clients who have been loyal to me from day one.
They've been with me through a good part of my life – pregnancies, good times and bumps in the road too.
In the early days these clients would come to my practice in my home, when my children were little.
So as my business has grown, we’ve grown in together.
What was your biggest mistake/or what would you do differently?
In business, I would be more cautious when taking people at face value.
Not everyone has your best interests at heart, so it is good to protect yourself.
Useful business contacts.
