THE go-ahead has been given for a total of 44 luxury homes to be added to a sprawling housing development near Newton Mearns.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland secured planning permission from East Renfrewshire Council to build the four and five-bedroom detached properties on land off Ayr Road, near Newton Mearns, as part of the wider Maidenhill masterplan.

The six-acre site is identified for housing in the Local Development Plan.

Bosses at Taylor Wimpey said the new Westfield Gate development represents a significant and continued investment in the East Renfrewshire area.

Stephen Andrew, the firm’s technical director, added: “As well as creating a significant residential development of new homes, this parcel of development will also contribute to a range of wider community benefits through a Section 75 Agreement with East Renfrewshire Council, which will include contributions towards education.

“Our Westfield Gate development will also contribute to a range of economic benefits for the local Maidenhill and Newton Mearns area, which includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses.”
