WHO IS PERFORMING?

Burt Bacharach

One of the world's greatest songwriters will kick off the Summer Nights at the Bandstand festival with his faithful piano on Friday, July 26.

The 91-year-old who penned hits including Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie, I Say a Little Prayer and The Look of Love is certain to be one of the biggest draws of the 12-date festival at Kelvingrove Bandstand. We'll be hoping for some surprise collaborations - previous live tour guests have included Elvis Costello.

Glasgow Times:

Don't be surprised if there's a bit of anti-Trump commentary from the great man and fans can go reassured that there is unlikely to be medleys, recent shows have included the full version of his hits.

If you didn't manage to get a ticket there are plenty of other highlights to look forward to at the award-winning event, which has been feted by artists including Tom Jones and Primal Scream for its unique, intimate atmosphere - the bandstand has a capacity of 2,500.

Glasgow Times:

Glasgow's Teenage Fanclub will return to the bandstand on July 30, while indie legends Suede are sure to delight fans with their show the following night.

New York punk legend Patti Smith will perform on August 1, while 80s legends The Human League are booked for August 3 and The National have lined up two dates on August 6 and 7.

Glasgow Times:

Food and drink

Ticket holders can look forward to premium street food outlets selling gourmet macaroni cheese and burgers washed down with Italian beers and cocktails. There will be areas to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Kelvingrove Park with friends between acts.

Are there any tickets left?

Organisers Regular Music said this year was the fastest ticket sell-out in the event's five-year history, with all briefs gone by March. If you didn't manage to get tickets why not head to Kelvingrove Park with a picnic and hear the bands for free.

What's the weather going to be like?

Friday's weather is expected to stay dry but cloudy with temperatures of up to 21C predicted so there should be no need to make use of the free ponchos that are always provided. However, we can't guarantee the rain will stay off for the rest of the festival so it's best to come prepared. A little cushion is recommended for the bandstand benches.

Glasgow Times:

How do I get there?

The nearest subway stop is Hillhead or Kelvingrove underground while buses stop on nearby Sauchiehall Street.

For anyone driving to the event - and not drinking - there is pay and display parking on streets around the bandstand but areas of Kelvin Way will be cordoned off for artist vehicles.
