DETECTIVES are hunting for two people after a BMW car was set on fire outside a house in Lanarkshire during the night and another van was targeted.

Police and fire crews were called to Bourtree Road in Hamilton at around 3.40am on Monday.

The luxury car was completely destroyed in the blaze. An attempt was also made to set a transit van on fire in the same street but the pair were unsuccesful and the two suspects fled after being disturbed by residents.

The two suspects were in their 20s and were wearing dark clothing with their hoods up.

The left the scene in a light colour car which was last seen heading toward Rederech Crescent.

Detective Constable Craig Jolly of Cambuslang Police Office said:  “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish more details on the circumstances surrounding this incident, and to identify those responsible.

“We have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and gathering CCTV footage from the area to study and establish more details that will assist our investigation.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has information that may help our enquiries to contact Cambuslang Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 0411 of 22nd July.”
