George Adams, 71, bravely tackled James Taylor at the store in Cambuslang, near Glasgow in April this year.

George grabbed the blade from the 63-year-old and pinned him to the ground until police arrived.

It lead to Taylor today being jailed for 14 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He pled guilty to attempted robbery.

The hearing was told how Taylor confronted worker Shabnam Chaudhry and demanded cash.

George then entered the shop - and clocked Taylor with the blade.

Mr Allan said: “He made attempts to calm Taylor and asked him to put the knife down.
