A SEARCH for missing Gregor Gibbons has been cancelled.

The Find Gregor social media page revealed that items belonging to the missing man had been discovered prompting the decision. 

We revealed yesterday that the search was due to take place today in an area where the 32-year-old was last seen.

The post by his heartbroken wife Leanne, 34, said: "Due to the recent discovery of items believed to be Gregor’s, both the family and police are requesting that the search be called off tomorrow (Friday) so the police can conduct their own search. 

"We have no further information to provide at this time, we will update when we can.

"On behalf of myself and Gregor's family, we’d like to thank each and every person who was willing to participate in this search."

Gregor, from Colston, has been missing since the start of July. He was last captured on CCTV at around 10.20pm on July 2. The footage, which cops released, shows the missing man walking eastbound on the Forth and Clyde Canal path at Twechar Bridge in Kilsyth.

A number of people also reported seeing Gregor walking on the canal path between 8pm and 10pm on the same night. The sightings were at Bishopbriggs heading towards Kilsyth and in the Twechar area of the path. He was also seen on CCTV near to the Auchinstarry Marina in Kilsyth around 10.50pm the same night.

Cops also revealed that the white Ford Fiesta he left his home in was found parked on Grovepark Street in Maryhill, near to Firhill football ground.

The missing man's family and friends previously tried to organise a search which police also requested they call off.

Leanne also previously appealed for information on her husband's whereabouts to the media. She was supported by Gregor's brother Scott.

The high profile campaign to bring Gregor home has been supported by his football team Rangers and Glasgow singer Gerry Cinnamon who have both got behind appeals. 

Ex-Rangers star Nacho Novo also appealed to his followers on social media for more information on Gregor's whereabouts. 

Gregor is described as white, around 5ft 5 inches in height and of slim build with very short dark hair. When he was last seen, he was wearing a black Nike hooded top, black shorts, and black trainers.
