POLICE searching for missing man Gregor Gibbons have discovered a body almost a month after he first disappeared.

The body was recovered by officers investigating his disappearance on Friday in the River Kelvin close to Dullatur Bridge at around 11am.

Police said that formal identification is yet to take place but they have informed Gregor's family.

A post-mortem will take place to establish the cause of death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

It comes after weeks of searching for the popular Colston man, 32, who was last seen on July 2.

The high-profile search for Gregor not only formed part of a huge policing operation, it involved appeals by Glasgow singer Gerry Cinnamon and his favourite football club Rangers with ex-player Nacho Novo also supporting the campaign.

Gregor left his home in Colston Avenue on July 2 at around 6pm in a white Ford Fiesta to head to work. He was next captured on CCTV walking past a convenience store in Maryhill Road at around 6.35pm.

His car was discovered parked in nearby Grovepark Street close to Firhill football ground.

Police continued their search for Gregor by scanning CCTV systems in the area while his wife Leanne and dad Robert, 58, appealed directly to the media.

Leanne, 34, said: “We all love you and just want you home.”

The couple just recently marked third wedding anniversary and Leanne and other family members worked tirelessly to find the missing man with appeals through the Find Gregor Facebook page.

Glasgow Times:

Gregor, who is Uncle to nephews Aaron, Max and Scott, was next seen on CCTV at around 10.20pm walking eastbound on the Forth and Clyde path at Twechar Bride in Kilsyth.

He was spotted by several members of the public in the area between 8pm and close to 11pm before the trail went cold.

The path, which runs alongside the canal, is a popular route for walkers and cyclists. It can take someone from North Glasgow where Gregor was last seen to the Kilsyth area and beyond.

Police sealed an area of the Forth and Clyde Canal Path between Dullatur Bridge and Auchinstarry Marina before the discovery.
