WITNESSES are being sought by police after a motorcyclist died in a crash on the M74.

Police have named the man as 50-year-old Billy McCracken from Cowdenbeath.

The incident took place on the busy motorway at Happendon junction (J11) on Sunday.

Police Scotland said that, at around 3.45pm, a Harley Davidson motorcycle was being driven northbound on the M74 near Uddingston when it left the road and hit the central reservation.

Emergency services attended and Mr McCracken was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Sergeant Jonny Edgar, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this motorcycle being driven on the M74 or seen the collision take place.

“You may also have dash-cam footage from around that time and we would ask you to check back and come forward with it. It could hold the key piece of information that will help us establish exactly what happened.”
