A CHARITY set up by a former Evening Times Scotswoman of the Year to help people with dementia has been given £1.6m funding boost.

Playlist for Life, which was founded by broadcaster and writer Sally Magnusson after the death of her mother, will use the National Lottery funding to grow its existing network of community Help Points to 1500 across the UK.

Sally paid tribute to the role SWOTY had played in raising the charity’s profile and added: “I founded Playlist for Life to share with other families something we had to discover by accident when caring for my mother: personal music helps dementia.

“We are grateful to the National Lottery for their faith in us and excited about the work to come.”

Playlist for Life is revolutionising dementia care. Homes trained by the charity consistently report a reduction in medication for residents with dementia, by up to 60 per cent.

Playlist for Life is hoping people will hold their own ‘musical tea’ events to celebrate in the run up to Music day on September 26 - sign up at playlistforlife.org.uk
