A TRUCK has been stolen from a conservatory installations company and used to break into two shops.

The incident happened at around 3am this morning (Wednesday) when Top Class Conservatories on Main Street, Coatbridge, was broken into and a blue Isuzu Rodeo truck was stolen.

The truck was then used to ram Lee’s Grocers on Petersburn Road in Airdrie.

The attempt to break-in was unsuccessful, but the thieves then moved on and drove the vehicle into Sidhu’s Store on Wheatholm Street and managed to gain access where they stole cigarettes and cash.

The suspects then made off in the truck and police say enquiries carried out so far have revealed there were three occupants, possibly all-male, involved.

Officers are continuing to check CCTV footage for any additional information which could assist their enquiries and are looking to the public for help.

Detective Constable Ben Simpson said: “These stores are regularly used by local people and the buildings have been badly damaged. It’s clear the intention of the suspects was to cause damage and grab as much as they could before making off.

“I would appeal to anyone who heard or saw anything which could be related to these incidents to contact us.
