A group of campaigners have disrupted a late-night Caledonian Sleeper service from Glasgow to protest mass evictions in the city.

Living Rent targeted the service after two vulnerable men were left homeless after a Home Office contractor locked them out of their homes.

Campaigners have slammed Serco, the contractor behind the evictions and who owns the service, and say they will not stop attacking them until the lock-changing stops.

They boarded the 11.40pm service from Glasgow to London, and handed out leaflets to passengers beginning their late trip.

Ellinore Folkesson of Living Rent said: “Serco’s decision to proceed with lock change evictions has been widely and vigorously condemned by the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council, and all humanitarian organisations working with refugees.

"They are no better in the rest of their business, with a track record of abuse of power, incompetence and fraud.

"The Caledonian Sleeper has experienced serious failures since              Serco took over, and it is time for the Scottish Government to remove them from this franchise and any other public contracts in Scotland.”

The tenant organisation confirmed tonight's action was brought on by the contractor's decision to evict two asylum seekers from their Glasgow homes.

The pair were left destitute after the lock-change evictions, and are now working with immigration lawyers to establish whether lodging fresh asylum claims is a possibility.

It is believed neither of the men had been in contact with refugee or legal services in Glasgow prior to their evictions.

In June, the contractor announced they would be continuing with their campaign of evictions in Glasgow despite an ongoing legal challenge against the process.
