A MAN was robbed at knifepoint by a thief who struck while he was on his bike in Paisley.

Police are now hunting for the thief who targeted the 29-year-old victim in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The force said that the victim was approached from behind by the thief, in the middle of the Lady Lane outside a funeral directors.

The thief cycled into Lady Lane on what is described as an orange bike when the theft happened at 5.30am. 

He then threatened the victim with a knife and demanded money, which was refused, before grabbing his mobile phone from his hand.

He then made off on the bike towards George Street.

The thief is described as having short hair and was wearing a tracksuit and a scarf covering the lower half of his face.

Detective Constable Heather Strathearn, of Paisley CID, is appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the robbery to get in touch.

She said: "If you witnessed what happened or recognise the description of the man who carried out the robbery please get in touch.

"Anyone with information which could help our enquiries should contact me via 101 quoting reference 0958 of 10 August 2019."
