FORMER Celtic star Kieran Tierney has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons, and now his social media following is following suit. 

The Arsenal defender saw his online fanbase grow by around 150,000 people in just 24 hours last week. 

After the Scotland international signed on at the Emirates Arena on transfer deadline day, the full-back saw his number of followers on Twitter shoot up by more than a third.

The former Celtic player gained 45,000 followers on his Twitter profile and an additional 105,000 followers on his Instagram account, accounting for an increase of 34% in his social media audience.

This is up from the previous contingents of 223,000 on Twitter and 224,000 on Instagram, leaving him with a new bases of 268,000 and 329,000 followers on each platform. 

As a result, all of his new followers would be able to fill Celtic Park more than twice over.

Despite the Parkhead favourite's stock continuing to rise, he remains well behind many of his new teammates. 

Following the release of the PMPR Football Social Influencer Tables, Mesut Özil, Arsenal’s World Cup winning midfielder, tops the table of social media influencers in the English Premier League with his 76million followers.

Tierney's fellow North London deadline day signing, David Luiz, is far back in second, with just over 52m followers online. 

Tierney's new club Arsenal sit third in the list of clubs' online followings, behind Manchester United in first and Chelsea in second. 

At Celtic Tierney's social media following was second amongst his teammates, with Scott Sinclair outranking the left-back.
